oregano

Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is a popular spice. It's an herb in the mint family. It's closely related to sweet marjoram and is sometimes called wild marjoram. It's a perennial although it may not be able to survive the winter outside in colder climates.

Common uses include tomato sauces. It's popular in Spanish, Italian and Mexican recipes.

Oregano is high in fiber, vitamin K, manganese, iron and omega 3 fatty acids. It also has calcium, vitamin A and C and potentially anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties.

It grows best in full sun and well drained soil.
