This article is about oil burned for heating or cooking rather than oil used as an ingredient (for that see oil (cooking)).

oil tank

Oil is burned in furnaces and stoves to heat and cook in our homes.

Like most other heating techniques, oil has fire risks. By being aware of them, you can minimize the danger.

For grills or smaller heating appliances, the oil may be in small, portable propane tanks. For heating a large home, there is usually a large tank and a delivery service. These larger tanks are generally not in the living space. They may be outside, in the basement or garage.
