Part of what can make a place feel like home is the foods that we associate with being comfortable, safe and nurturing. Sometimes these are called comfort food. Comfort foods will vary based on culture and personal taste. Comfort foods tend to be served warm or hot and to be liquid or soft and mushy or gooey.
These are often the foods that we want when we are feeling worn down, sad or sick. Comfort foods tend not be thought of as "high class", gourmet or fancy foods. The association of a food with comfort may come from the person who used to make it for us, the people we eat it with or the situations when we eat it. Comfort food preferences tend to be developed when we are young.
